Black Bear

In New Brunswick  there are three seasons for black bear hunting. In the spring, we hunt from May 1-June 20, with bow or rifle. We have an exclusive area of thousands of acres as well as our regular area. We hunt our bear from both tree stands and ground sets, over baits which are previously maintained to ensure they are active and productive. Since we accept a limited number of hunters, we can be reasonably sure there is at least one large bear coming to each stand we use each week. We do not encourage our hunters to shoot small bear as this is unnecessary and a waste of resources. Our average bears weigh 200 lbs.+, with a number of B&C's and P&Y's taken annually. A hunter's average is better during the spring because there is no other food in the area or other hunters in the woods at that time. During the past years, we have consistently averaged 80% or better. Bring your bow, muzzle loader or rifle and expect some serious fun!

Fall Archery: (second and third week of September). During this season we have also had very good luck,  because it is the only season open at this time, and the bears are trying to bulk up for the winter. Bow hunting bears is one of our specialties. Few things can compare to harvesting a bear up close and personal, and we are bow hunters. The weather is truly great at this time of year, with cool nights and splendid days. At this time, we hunt baits near grain fields, grown-up farm land, and our usual thick forested areas. During this season you can also fly fish for Atlantic Salmon.

Fall Season: (bow or rifle) (Oct. - Nov ) Our fall season finds our bears really trying to bulk up for the winter and very aggressive at the baits. As food supplies diminish they become more predictable, with lots of action for our hunters. Their coats are shorter than in the spring, but very dense and beautiful, well worthy of a mount or rug. Grouse season is also open now, as well as archery for deer and catch-and-release Atlantic salmon fishing.

Moose

Moose hunting for non-residents is done on a draw system only. Over the years we have always done very well, with a good number shot. N.B. has a good, healthy moose population. We do like to have our hunters ro arrive a day or two early to get used to the terrain, etc. Our guides have many years experience with moose hunting, with a 90% average. We are considered one of the best in this field.

Deer

Over the years New Brunswick has become known as the place to go, for a chance at bagging a trophy whitetail. As any hunter knows, these chances increase or diminish due to circumstances; i.e. unseasonable warm weather, late rut etc.. During the past years, some of our hunters have passed over good deer for the chance at a larger deer they may have seen earlier in the week. This may have cut down on our average but it has produced as well; for example, N.B. #1 Pope & Young. Our temperatures range from 40's to 20's F. With snow usually the last two weeks of season (rut). During this season, we usually use Sorrel boots (felt-lined) and heavy gauge solid orange hat and jacket. Although we do not have the deer population of many other places, we do have the feeding grounds to give our deer the size in body (some as large as 300 lbs.) and good racks. One of our hunters now holds the N.B. #1 Pope & Young. On a regular hunt a guide will take a maximum of three hunters to an area with game. They will then work that area to the best advantage of them all. Your guide stays with you or in your area, for the day,

Bird

New Brunswick has also been known as the woodcock capital of the world. Our grouse hunting an added bonus to or bird hunters and their dogs, as well as our other hunters, as it is possible to combine a bear or deer hunt with birds. This year we are seeing more birds around camp than ever before. This is possibly because the grouse are near their 7 year cycle, although we have always had a good number around. Note: Dogs are required for September season, for woodcock only.
